The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his progeny) said regarding this blessed hadith: "Whenever this narration of ours is recited in a gathering of our Shia and lovers on earth, the mercy of Allah descends upon them, the angels surround them, and Allah takes pride in them before His angels until the gathering disperses." This hadith is narrated by Sayyidah Fatimah al-Zahra' (peace be upon her) and is recorded in 'Alam al-'Ulum and Mafatih al-Jinan (Baqi'yat al-Salihat).

bismillahi alrrahmani alrrahimi
In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful
an jabiri bni `abdillahi al-ansariyyi, an fatimata al-zahra'i `alayha al-salamu binti rasulillahi
Jabir ibn 'Abdillah al-Ansari narrates, saying: From Fatimah al-Zahra' (peace be upon her), the daughter of the Messenger of Allah:
qala sami`tu fatimata annaha qalat dakhala `alayya abi rasulullahi fi ba`di al-ayyami
He said: I heard Fatimah say: One day my father, the Messenger of Allah, came to me
faqala al-salamu `alayki ya fatimah, faqultu `alayka al-salam, qala inni ajidu fi badani du`fan
He said: Peace be upon you, O Fatimah. I replied: And peace be upon you. He then said: I feel weakness in my body
faqultu lahu a`idhuka billahi ya abatahu mina al-du`fi
I said: O father, may Allah protect you from weakness!

He said: O Fatimah, bring me the Yemeni cloak and cover me with it. So I brought the Yemeni cloak and covered him with it, and I looked at him — his face was radiant like the full moon on the night of its perfection

Not an hour had passed before my son al-Hasan came and said: Peace be upon you, O mother. I said: And peace be upon you, O delight of my eyes and fruit of my heart

fa-aqbala al-hasanu nahwa alkisa'i waqala al-salamu `alayka ya jaddahu ya rasula allahi, ata'dhanu li an adkhula ma`aka tahta alkisa'i
Then al-Hasan moved towards the cloak and said: Peace be upon you, O grandfather, O Messenger of Allah. Will you permit me to enter the cloak with you?

fadana al-husaynu nahwa alkisa'i waqala al-salamu `alayka ya jaddahu, al-salamu `alayka ya mani ikhtarahullahu, ata'dhanu li an akuna ma`akuma tahta alkisa'i
So al-Husayn drew near the cloak and said: Peace be upon you, O grandfather. Peace be upon you, O he whom Allah has chosen. Will you permit me to be with you both under the cloak?

He said: And peace be upon you, O my son, O intercessor of my nation. I have permitted you. So he entered the cloak with both of them

Then Abu al-Hasan, 'Ali ibn Abi Talib, came forward and said: Peace be upon you, O daughter of the Messenger of Allah. I said: And peace be upon you, O Abu al-Hasan, O Commander of the Faithful

He said: O Fatimah, I perceive a pleasant fragrance with you, as if it were the fragrance of my brother and cousin, the Messenger of Allah. I said: Yes, he is with your two sons under the cloak

He said to him: And peace be upon you, O my brother, O my successor, my vicegerent and the bearer of my banner. I have permitted you. So 'Ali entered the cloak

Then I came towards the cloak and said: Peace be upon you, O father, O Messenger of Allah. Will you permit me to be with you under the cloak?
He said: And peace be upon you, O my daughter, O part of my flesh. I have permitted you. So I entered the cloak
falamma aktamalna jami`an tahta alkisa'i
When we had all gathered under the cloak
akhadha abi rasulullahi bitarafay alkisa'i wa awma'a biyadihi al-yumna ila al-sama'i
My father, the Messenger of Allah, took hold of the two ends of the cloak and pointed with his right hand towards the sky
waqala allahumma inna ha'ula'i ahl bayti wa khassati wa hammati, lahmuhum lahmi wa damuhum dami, yu'limuni ma yu'limuhum wa yahzununi ma yahzunuhum
And he said: O Allah, these are the people of my household, my special ones and my close ones. Their flesh is my flesh and their blood is my blood. Whoever hurts them hurts me, and whoever saddens them saddens me
ana harbun liman harabahum wa silmun liman salamahum wa `aduwwun liman `adahum wa muhibbun liman ahabbahum, innahum minni wa ana minhum
I am at war with whoever wars against them, and at peace with whoever makes peace with them. I am an enemy of whoever is their enemy, and a friend of whoever loves them. Surely they are from me and I am from them
faj`al salawatika wa barakatika wa rahmataka wa ghufranaka wa ridwanaka `alayya wa `alayhim, wa adhhib `anhumu al-rijsa wa tahhirhum tathiran
So place Your blessings, benedictions, mercy, forgiveness and good pleasure upon me and upon them, and remove all impurity from them and purify them with a thorough purification
Then Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said: O My angels and O dwellers of My heavens
Verily, I did not create a canopied sky, nor a spread-out earth, nor a radiant moon, nor a shining sun, nor a revolving sphere
wala bahr an yajri wa la fulkan yasri illa fi mahabbati ha'ula'i alkhamsati alladhina hum tahta alkisa'i
Nor a flowing sea, nor a sailing ship — except for the sake of the love of these five who are under the cloak
faqala al-aminu jibra'ilu ya rabbi wa man tahta alkisa'i
Al-Amin Jibra'il said: O my Lord, who are those under the cloak?
faqala `azza wa jalla hum ahl bayti al-nubuwwati wa ma`dinu al-risalati, hum fatimatu wa abuha wa ba`luha wa banuha
He, the Mighty and Majestic, said: They are the household of prophethood and the mine of the message — they are Fatimah, her father, her husband and her two sons
faqala jibra'ilu ya rabbi ata'dhanu li an ahbita ila al-ardi li-akuna ma`ahum sadisan
Jibra'il said: O my Lord, will You permit me to descend to the earth to be with them as a sixth?
faqala qad adhintu laka, fahabata al-aminu jibra'ilu
Allah said: Yes, I have permitted you. So al-Amin Jibra'il descended
And he said: Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah. The Most High, the Most Exalted, sends you His greeting and honours you with tribute and veneration
wa yaqulu laka wa `izzati wa jalali inni ma khalaqtu sama'an mabniyatan wala ardan madhiyyatan wala qamaran muniran
And He says to you: By My might and My majesty, verily I did not create a canopied sky, nor a spread-out earth, nor a radiant moon
wala shamsan mudi'atan wala falakan yaduru wala bahr an yajri wala fulkan yasri illa li-ajlikum wa mahabbatikum
Nor a shining sun, nor a revolving sphere, nor a flowing sea, nor a sailing ship — except for your sake and out of love for you
waqad adhina li an adkhula ma`akum, fa hal ta'dhanu li ya rasula allahi
And He has permitted me to enter with you. So do you permit me, O Messenger of Allah?
faqala rasulullahi wa `alayka al-salamu ya amina wahyi allahi, innahu na`am qad adhintu laka, fadakhala jibra'ilu ma`ana tahta alkisa'i
The Messenger of Allah said: And peace be upon you, O trustee of the revelation of Allah. Yes, I have permitted you. So Jibra'il entered the cloak with us
faqala li abi inna allaha qad awha ilaykum yaqulu innama yuridu allahu li-yudhhiba `ankumu al-rijsa ahl al-bayti wa yutahhirakum tathiran
He said to my father: Verily Allah has revealed to you, saying: Allah only intends to remove all impurity from you, O People of the Household, and to purify you with a thorough purification

The Prophet, may Allah bless him and his Household, said: By Him who sent me as a true prophet and chose me for the message as a saviour, this story of ours is not mentioned in any gathering of the people of the earth

'Ali said: Then, by Allah, we have triumphed — and, by the Lord of the Kaaba, so have our Shia!
